Tim’s Testimony

Tim Kahler’s Testimony

I was raised outside of the church and God. A selfish life was all I knew growing up. My home was a broken one. We believed that we had better things to do than to worship the Lord. We had the mindset that we could do everything on our own.
I was a shy loner all through school. Towards the end of my senior year of High School I asked one of the ladies in my class that I had known since the second grade to prom. Her name was Katie. She was outgoing and made me feel comfortable. She said “yes” when I asked her to go. Later, we graduated and she left for college and I stayed in York to enter into the working field.
A year passed and my parents separated. Shortly after that happened, I reached out to Katie for support. She was very involved in the church she was attending in Hastings and she was very involved in her Church club there at the college. She invited me to some of the parties that the club put on. She also invited me to join her at church. She became a friend through a very difficult time in my life. She was also the one that introduced me to God, the Creator, to Jesus His Son who died to set me free from the pain of my broken family and to show me a better way to live.
After a year of becoming a part of her family and friends, we decided to date. A year later we planned to be married. Sitting down with Katie and her parents to discuss marriage, the fact that I had not truly accepted Christ and had not been following Him was evident. I knew that it was time to give it all to Him. I was done living like I was. I knew there was a better way to live and I wanted to live that way. So one night, at her parent’s house, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior. We got married. As newlyweds we struggled like many newlyweds do.
It was not until after we were expecting our now three year old that I felt God telling me that I should be baptized. I had been feeling this for a few months. So I got in contact with the pastor at the church that we had been going to. My pastor and I discussed this then a week later I stood in front of the church and got baptized.
I still struggled to put my faith into action and to take time to really know the God that loves me. I have had the desire to follow Him for some time now. Every time that the desire would be really strong, I would pray to God about it. So He called me to the Living Water Rescue Mission. He has brought me here to learn, grow and help others to learn and grow in faith. So I hope by reading this you will think, “Hey, my life is like his so there is hope for me too.” Yes, there is hope for you. You simply need to pray and let God be in control. He is an amazing God. He helps in all kinds of ways.

John 14:11-14 Believe me when I say that I’m in the Father and the Father is in me, or at least believe on the evidence of the miracles themselves. I tell you the truth, anyone who has faith in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.
