Let me share a little about my past and why it was so important to me to recommit my life and turn to God for my future. What I thought this life was for, is me—me. I am a married man with four beautiful little girls. With my past drug addictions I always put my family after my high. I always thought that I had to be high to have any kind of relationship with my family. My heart was so hard that I didn’t care about the world or the people in it. In mid-July of 2013, my world came crushing down when my wife left and took my girls. I knew then that I needed to look hard at my life. I needed to find God and a place that would help me build a new me. After several days of looking for answers, my cousin Annie (from York) told me about the Living Water Rescue Mission (LWRM), and then I knew that’s where God wanted me. I traveled 375 miles from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to recommit my life to Christ. My journey started on August 1st, 2013. The blessings almost started immediately. Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life. (Psalm 23:6)
I was wanted by the police in the State of Missouri for misdemeanor crimes I committed while under the influence of drugs. I never paid the fines, and now they turned into warrants for my arrest. That’s when I was reminded about David and Goliath, and then I learned that I would have to act as David and slay my giant. (1 Samuel 17:51.) I got all the money I could get together, left the mission, and went to Missouri with $450 to slay the giant. I went in front of the judge and pled guilty and was ordered to pay, you guessed it, $450.00 in fines. I returned to the mission with one less giant and the desire to glorify God in all I do.
Jesus is changing me; He started taking addictions out of my life, one by one. He has also blessed me with a renewed relationship with my wife and kids. I know now that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. (Philippians 4:13)
