A Christian Discipleship Program

  • Long-term (Approx. 12 months) – Most people enrolling in the New Life Program have been through numerous 30-day programs, but without lasting success.
  • Work-study – Ten classes/week & an assigned job teaching people how to work as part of a team and to work under authority.
  • Biblically-based teaching & counseling
  • Addictions Victorious, a Bible-based, 12-step program that addresses addiction issues.
  • Teaches responsibility & accountability

“Anyone in bondage to the rule of a substance, activity, or state of mind, which then becomes the center of life, defending itself from the truth so that even bad consequences don’t bring repentance, and leading to further estrangement from God.”

Edward T. Welch, A Banquet in the Grave

Common addictions include such things as substances (alcohol and drugs), tobacco, sex, pornography, gambling, pleasure, food, sports, work, success…etc.

What’s Different About The

Healing Heart Women’s Discipleship Program?

The Healing Heart Women’s Discipleship Program is not a “treatment program”. It is a non-denominational Christian discipleship program. We encourage our women to establish a growing relationship with Jesus Christ. We use the Bible, various textbooks and some videotapes and all are Biblically sound.

Healing Heart Women’s Program Disciples are not isolated from the rest of the world while in their recovery. They do have separate living quarters within the Mission (they have more privileges, as well as more responsibilities than other guests at the Mission). They are part of the Mission team, seeking to extend Christian hospitality and a good witness to all.

All Healing Heart Women Disciples complete Bible lessons and memorize Scripture.

The three phases are variable in length because of their goal-oriented nature. Whether done quickly or not, the goals are important to reach and perseverance is the key!

Who May Join the Healing Heart Women’s Discipleship Program?
Women in the Healing Heart Discipleship Program have often been through other shorter “treatment programs” but have not attained lasting success. Usually, these shorter programs have not been Christ centered or effective.

Disciples are struggling with life mastering problems, many times drugs and alcohol; although some join to just get some direction in life.

Disciples usually range in age from 17 to 50. Most are in their 30’s. There is room for 6 women in the program.

4. CONDUCT

Discipline is a divinely ordained activity (Hebrews 12:6) designed to be used by God for our good, that we may share in His holiness (Hebrews 12:10). In order to best reflect the invariable nature of God, it is important that discipline be administered consistently and without personal favoritism (James 2:1-4). To best reflect the personal nature of God, it is important to allow room for the exercise of grace and mercy (John 1:17). To this end, the following guidelines are provided:

  1. Depending on the Staff Member’s analysis of the severity of the offense, restriction may be given: 1 day, 3 days, 7 days, and 14 days. Other methods of discipline may be used, depending upon the recommendations of the disciple’s counselor and/or the Director. These other methods may include:
    • counseling
    • Withholding or reduction of stipend – $2 deduction for missed classes, chapels, devotions, $1 for being late, etc.
    • change sleeping areas
    • additional assignments
    • refusal of passes
    • dismissal from the program
    • any other appropriate measure

  1. Subsequent offenses of a similar nature should be rewarded with a stricter consequence. Example: If 1st offense earned 1-day restriction, 2nd should earn 3 days, 3rd should earn 7 days, etc.
  2. Restriction for separate offenses should not run concurrently, but should run consecutively.
  3. Total accumulated restriction for any number of offenses should not exceed 21 days. If more than 21 days of restriction are accumulated, it seems to indicate that restriction is not an effective disciplinary measure, and removal from the program could occur.
  4. Once removed from the program, the disciple cannot be allowed back in the program for a minimum of 30 days.
  5. All Disciples restarting the program shall begin with the FIRM FOUNDATION Phase.
  6. The Disciple’s counselor shall handle variances and appeals for variances (concerning discipline); the Director of Women’’s Ministries and the Executive Director.

5. GROUNDS FOR IMMEDIATE DISMISSAL.

  1. Possession and/or use of alcohol or illegal drugs either on or off the premises.
  2. Gambling – including purchase of lottery tickets.
  3. Repeated profanity – includes any language not becoming of a lady.
  4. Possession of any pornography.
  5. Possession of any weapons.
  6. Lewd behavior.
  7. Blatant refusal to obey staff.
  8. Smoking in the building.
  9. Stealing from Mission or guests.

NON-FRATERNIZATION: (NO socializing with opposite sex!) Association with members of the opposite sex has been proven to be downfall of many people attempting to straighten out their lives. Experience has taught us that it is necessary that socializing can not be permitted with members of the opposite sex (unless married). A Christ-honoring relationship with someone may be permitted to anyone on the FINAL Phase. Rare exceptions may be considered by the staff. All such exceptions/relationships must be approved in a staff meeting. KINDNESS AND POLITENESS ARE EXPECTED.

HONESTY AND RESPECT FOR PROPERTY: All Disciples are being trusted to respect the possessions and rights of other. Please do not break this trust.

RESTRICTED AREAS:

  1. Disciples are not allowed in the room of another Disciple.
  2. Women are not allowed in the men’s residence areas.
  3. Women are not allowed to linger in any men’s working areas.
  4. Food, beverages, and tobacco-use are not allowed in sleeping rooms.
  5. The office area is off-limits unless a staff member is present.

SMOKING AREAS: Smoking and any use of tobacco is a habit that everyone should quit. Since the Christian’s body is the dwelling place of God, every effort must be made to keep God’s house clean and smelling good. This pleases God. It would also save you money and give you better health. Smoking is not permitted in any of our buildings or in our vehicles at any time. Smoking is permitted only on the East Side of the building in the designated area. Please do not litter cigarette butts.
